With the aviation industry experiencing its worst crisis ever due to the COVID-19 pandemic, aviation crew around the globe could be part of an exciting new industry as a drone operator.

Aviation Knowledge Tips: AIRPORT RUNWAY :

Aviation Knowledge Tips: AIRPORT RUNWAY :

Aviation Knowledge Tips: AIRPORT RUNWAY :

What are the different markings on the runway?

Runway is a long rectangular strip on the ground with a hard surface where an aircraft can land and take off at an airport. It is built by using asphalt, concrete, or a mixture of both.

Markings on Runway:

1) CENTER LINE:

Center line is a dashed white line at the center of the runway. As the name explains, this line is to recognize the center of the runway. This line looks similar to the center line we see on highway roads or main roads of any city.

2) RUNWAY NUMBER:

A runway number is given depending on the direction of a runway on a compass. If the runway is in a direction of " 270° " then the runway number will be " 27 " eliminating the last zero. If the direction is " 274° " then the number is given by taking the nearest tenth digit.

For ex: 274° is taken as 270 = 27

278° is taken as 280 = 28 :74° is taken as 070 = 07 (UK) or 7 (USA) : 77° is taken as 080 = 08 (UK) or 8 (USA)

3) PARALLEL RUNWAYS:

Same number cannot be given to more than one runway as pilots will get confused. But, At few airports have more than one runway in the same direction. Such runways are called Parallel runways. In such cases, runways are represented as " 27R " which means " 27 Right ", " 27L " which means " 27 Left ", and " 27C " which means " 27 Center ".

4) THRESHOLD BARS:

At the beginning of every runway we can see a few white bars, These are called Threshold Bars. These bars helps the pilots and crew to understand the runway width. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Threshold bar measurements are as follows :

Number of Stripes Runway Width

60 feet (18 m) 4 : 75 feet (23 m) 6

100 feet (30 m) 8 : 150 feet (45 m) 12

200 feet (60 m) 16

5) AIM POINT:

Aim point in the actual point where pilots should aim to make the touchdown of their aircraft. This point can be seen with three boxes in UK and with two single boxs in other nations.

6) TOUCHDOWN ZONE:

Not every pilot can land their aircraft exactly at the aim point every single time and that's quite difficult too. So, This touchdown zone can be used by the pilots to land their aircraft. These line markings will be decreasing one by one for every 500 Feet which explains how close the aircraft is to the edge of the runway.

7) EXTENTION MARKINGS:

DISPLACED THRESHOLD MARKINGS:

This area on a runway is used for aircraft taxiing and to start the aircraft run to make the take-off. Threshold area should not be used to land an aircraft as it is not much capable enough to withstand the landing of an aircraft as the remaining runway.

BLAST PAD:

An aircraft is not permitted to enter the blast pad area unless in the emergency situation because the blast pad area is most likely a displaced threshold area. The main reason for having a blast pad area is to avoid the damage caused by the jet blast of an aircraft to any ground equipment or humans standing at the end of the runways.

II) Mid-level Clouds - 6,500 Ft to 20,000 Ft

III) High-level Clods - > 20,000 Ft

I) Low-level Clouds

¿¿¿ Nimbostratus Cloud (NS):
Rain bearing layer clouds. Generally Grey in colour covers the whole sky, very thick a distinctively diffuse base because of falling rain or snow.

Tata’s Begin Process To Bring All of Its Airlines Under Air India Brand

According to reports, Tata Sons has begun the process of unifying all of its airlines under the name Air India. All of its airline companies, including Vistara, AirAsia India, and Air India Express, are expected to merge under Air India as a result of this consolidation process.

The Economic Times said that Tata Sons began this procedure following numerous rounds of negotiations with Singapore Airlines (SIA). According to the survey, Air India might overtake United Airlines as the second-largest airline in the nation, especially in terms of fleet size and market share.

Through this merger, Tata Sons will have both a full-service and low-cost airline operating as Air India. After the merger, this would be the only airline brand inside the corporation. Although it is anticipated that these two airline companies would soon start working together commercially, it has been suggested that it may take longer than a year for them to begin operating as one cohesive unit under the same umbrella. The article also mentioned that the Vistara brand might be discontinued and that SIA is anticipated to hold a minority stake in Air India, with a couple of its board members anticipated to join Air India’s board.

Prior to these revisions, Tata’s also finished combining Air India Express and AirAsia India earlier this month. According to the ET report, this was finished after the corporation purchased the remaining stock in the latter.

Growth of the Aviation Industry in INDIA in the last 20 years

There was massive Growth in the aviation industry in INDIA in the last 20 years (2000-2020)
There were 13.7 million domestic travelers in India in 2000. It was 61.4 million in 2013 and 143 million in 2019 a tenfold increase in 20 years. To contextualize this growth: Twenty million people passed through Kolkata Airport alone in 2019, which is nearly twice as many as all of India did in 2000. 2019 saw more travelers pass through Delhi Airport than all of India combined did in 2013. In 2000, there were 113 aircraft total among all Indian carriers. In 2013, it reached 395; in 2019, it reached 706. The three biggest airlines in China each have over 700 aircraft, so even with this enormous increase, there is still an opportunity for enormous future growth in India.

The regional connection program, UDAN, and numerous other programs have all assisted in the sector’s growth over the past few years. Importantly, the VAT ATF taxes, which were 25 to 30%, have been reduced or eliminated in many states over the past few years under the current administration; most states have lowered them by 5%, and some have even gone as low as 1%. This has been one of the biggest proactive steps taken to prevent harm to the industry. The airports have seen expansion as a result. Actually, both our passenger volume and the number of flights have greatly increased

THE RIGHT TIME FOR PILOT TRAINING
